THE BRIEF
Exposure
Migrant communities across Europe face healthcare barriers that are often invisible to the systems meant to support them. The Africa Advocacy Foundation and ViiV Healthcare asked us to expose these realities through a storytelling and advocacy platform built to shift understanding.
We developed the full concept, narrative structure, photography body, and web experience needed to translate complex, hidden obstacles into something decision-makers could feel and respond to.

Project Scope
-
Concept, story architecture and full creative direction
-
A photography library rooted in lived experience across three countries
-
A narrative framework designed to complement the healthcare data
-
A digital platform built for accessibility, clarity and emotional impact
-
Assets supporting advocacy, policy and partner communications

What I want politicians to understand about migrants is that racism, marginalisation, and stigma are like a death sentence.

Approach
We began by working with a Europe-wide network of health organisations to identify a strategic focal point, landing on Sicily and Athens, two key entry points where migrant health barriers are sharply felt. Guided by this context, we shaped a method that balanced human truth with strategic clarity, ensuring every story could speak directly to policy challenges.
Through documentary portraiture and recorded conversations, we captured lived experience in a way that preserved authenticity while supporting a structured, policy-relevant narrative system. The result was insight and content grounded in real environments and real voices.

Collaboration
Local partners were central to the work. Their trust opened doors to communities navigating limited access to care, enabling slow, meaningful time with people whose experiences often remain undocumented. These relationships shaped everything, from who we spoke with to how stories were gathered, ensuring the work honoured context rather than extracting it.
This collaborative model allowed the project to sit at the intersection of community insight and public health advocacy, aligning lived experience with the data and strategic goals of the wider Mi-Health partnership.

Framework Building
Together, we produced:
-
An integrated story system aligning community insight with public health goals
-
A visual and editorial language capable of carrying sensitive, complex themes
-
Tools designed to help partners communicate migrant health inequalities
-
A platform that amplifies both qualitative stories and quantitative evidence
-
A scalable foundation for future cross-European advocacy initiatives

Impact
The result of this collaboration is a platform that turns policy challenges into human clarity. Strategic, emotional and grounded in truth, Health Without Borders bridges lived experience and actionable insight, giving advocates and policymakers a shared point of reference.
By uniting concept, storytelling, photography, branding and web design, the project ensures migrant voices shape the public health conversation, not as anecdotes but as evidence.
